Chicago's Michigan Avenue is a popular tourist and shopping destination - especially during summer. Over the course of three to four late-spring evenings, Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects, the firm commissioned by the city to design the median planting arrangements, directs the installation of its design for the busy thoroughfare. Two simultaneous waves of installation crews, designers, and traffic controllers - one in the south: from Roosevelt Road to Wacker Drive; and one in the north: from Wacker Drive to Oak Street - separately cover the most esteemed stretch of the street. In total they cover two and a quarter miles, negotiating design, traffic, and general hustle.
