David Samuel Stern was born in Highland Park, Illinois, and received an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. Through photography and related media, his work examines the nature of images, documents oft-overlooked occurrences, and highlights the irony and elegance of everyday leitmotivs. Among other venues, his work has been featured by the University of Colorado at Boulder, the Chelsea Art Museum in New York City, and the civic center in Nobeoka, Japan. He has taught at Illinois Central College and Bradley University. He currently lives in upstate New York.
